7up for Rangers
Birthday boy Adam Shipman nearly added a Hat-Trick to his celebrations, however, was happy to settle for a brace in Moreton's season opener Vs Shrivenham on Saturday.
Rangers clearly still bruised from the friendly defeat to Bourton Rovers, started their new campaign with a bang! The opening 20 minutes were very end to end and the game could have gone in another direction had James Carter not made a couple of good saves to deny the visitors. The home side created chances and passed the ball well and, eventually, were rewarded with a headed goal from Adam Shipman. Martin Tomes' corner was inch perfect for Shipman to simply head home from 6 yards. Shipman's presence in the box caused more trouble for the away side only 10 minutes later, as another Tomes corner was eventually smashed home. Shipman now had 2 to his name.
The game was effectively over at half time as Moreton went in 3-0 up thanks to another header from Harry Peters. A neat one-two between Tomes and Tyack ended with Peters heading home at the back post from Tyack's first time cross. Rangers were running riot!
The second half started as the first did. Shrivenham came out of the blocks very fast and forced a few corners. Again Gary Barnett's men repelled the advances and eventually took control of the game once again. Paul Whitehouse and Tom Newbould were dictating play in midfield and Rangers looked threatening with every attack. The 4th goal was a result of some more good wing play from Harry Peters. He cleverly cut inside his man on the left hand side of the box and whipped a cross in for Ben Shurmer to volley home on the turn. With the contest over, Moreton continued to attack and didn't let up. New signing Joseph Boote was given his debut off the bench and announced his arrival in style with a stunning 30 yard drive into the top corner. 5-0!
The goals continued to come as Harry Peters grabbed his second. Another cross from the left was scooped over the keeper and in. Martin Tomes finished the day in style with an individual dribble and finish low to the left of the visitors keeper. Adam Shipman nearly grabbed his Hat-Trick late on but was denied by a great save.
The perfect start to a new campaign. Rangers will now welcome Letcombe to London Road next Saturday 12th September - KO 3pm.
