Help Turn the Lights On

Moreton Rangers Football Club has had its up and downs in its twenty year history, the downs coming through events off the field whilst the football on the field has gone from strength to strength.

With club expanding from one Junior Team in 1997 to its current line-up of seven Junior and 2 adult teams making it the largest membership club in the town with over 130 players . The off field challenges have tested the resolve of those involved ,when the changing rooms were burnt down an unbelievable effort was made to raise £86,000 to build new changing rooms, with local support from charities and business being key to supporting the fundraising and work by club members.

Having inherited a dilapidated clubroom from the defunct Moreton Town this was then vandalised rendering it dangerous and was demolished to make way for the skate park. The club has now raised another £30,000 to build a new clubroom which is now open. Again this was achieved through local partnership with business and charities along with hard work fundraising and working for free to build the room.

Our next big project is to refurbish the Floodlights at the ground to help expand the ambitions of the club. When the fire destroyed the changing rooms it wrecked the electric supply to the lights. Although a new supply was installed to the changing rooms the age of the original lights made them unusable.

We now aim to install up to date floodlights which meet the F.A standards for grounds and give us the flexibility to train and play games in the evenings, and in particular enter teams in the Midlands Under 18 floodlit league to provide a pathway for our junior players once they reach 16 when most only have adult leagues to play in locally.

This project we anticipate will cost £30,000 so we are starting a fundraising appeal to raise this amount. If you feel you can help please contact Martin Jones on 01608 650955 or m.jones125@btinternet.com.

Moreton Teams are League Title Challengers.

Moreton first team are in a tight run in with Newent and Carterton at the top of the Hellenic League Divison 2 West. A 2-1 away win at league leaders Newent put them in a point off the top spot but local rivals Bourton Rovers kept Moreton from taking control of the league as they played twice in two weeks, with both hard fought games ending in 1 -1 draws.

Upcoming games at London Road are:

Sat 10th March v Highworth – KO 3PM

Sat 17th March v Newent-– KO 3PM

Sat 2nd April v Carterton – KO 2.15PM

Moreton Rangers Reserves are second in the Witney and District League 2 but are 5 points behind the leaders Middle Barton with a game in hand. Recent victories over Hanborough 2-1 and Aston Reserves 1-0 kept them in contention. With eight games to go it is all to play for.

Moreton Rangers under 13 also sit second in their Ambassador Evesham League. Only one point behind the leaders Nunnery Wood with a game in hand. Their coach Lynsey Burdock hopes the fine form of the squad can take them to the end of the season in contention to win the league.
